WARNING: Fake Dyson Websites
We have recently seen a number of instances of fraudsters setting up completely fake Dyson websites which are being used as a front for data harvesting and card payment fraud.
The fake websites attempt to deceive consumers by deliberately imitating the look and feel of a genuine Dyson website, using genuine Dyson imagery and videos which the fraudsters have copied without permission. The result is very convincing. Typically, the fraudsters will try to trick Dyson consumers into handing over their personal information and bankcard details by offering what appear to be heavily-discounted Dyson products being sold at extremely low prices.
You can find some useful tips on how to identify fake Dyson websites below.
We are working extremely hard to take these fake websites down as they appear. If you suspect that you have visited one of these fake websites then you can report this to us at fakewebsite@dyson.com.
To avoid falling victim to the fraudsters, it is important to exercise the usual caution when attempting to purchase products online. The best way to ensure that you are buying a genuine Dyson product is to purchase it from a reputable retailer or direct from Dyson at www.dyson.com, which will automatically direct you to your local official Dyson website.
If you are in any doubt about whether a website is genuinely offering Dyson products, then you can contact Dyson’s customer care team for help and support – contact details can be found on the ‘Contact Us’ section of your local official Dyson website.
Tips to help identify fraudulent websites
The fake websites are often promoted through sponsored adverts on social media. These sponsored adverts will typically use genuine Dyson images or videos to trick consumers into believing that they are genuine, and they will often include a ‘Shop Now’ or ‘Buy Now’ link directly to the fake website.
If you are unsure about whether a website is genuine or fake there are a few things you can check:
- Look at the domain name for the website. Often fake websites will use genuine Dyson product names combined with generic terms, for example, <dysonsale.com>, <supersonicstore.com>, or <airwraponline.com>.
- Look carefully at the language used on the website. Although many pages will be copied directly from genuine websites, there are often spelling mistakes or grammatical errors in the fake websites. These are quite commonly found on the ‘About Us’ or ‘Contact Us’ pages.
- Look at the price of the products being offered for sale. If the prices seem ‘too good to be true’ then this should be a warning signal. If you find a website offering Dyson technology at heavily-discounted prices it may well be a fake.
